Klaudia Delmer – Mimis Plessas
‘Lamar – Dromoi tis Thalassas’

Anyway … Europe

We have written about Klaudia Delmer in the past, and, for sure, an album of hers with music written by Mimis Plessas was not something we expected. Anyhow “Lamar” [Artway – Technotropon / Polytropon, 2007] is an interesting album, which through a “common” concept, the love- sea relationship, attempts to reveal the performer’s expression.

Delmer’s voice is “strange”. A strange combination of… Nana Mouschouri after the middle of her career and Flery Dadonaki. She usually performs close to the boundaries between “easy listening and “classical” – which, obviously, reveals her origins. From that point of view, “Lamar” is not distinguished for its spontaneity , but for its somewhat “icy” aesthete atmosphere, which attempts to captivate the listener, who probably falls in love… with caution. Acceptable. As even passions sometimes know of limits… Excluding Mimis Plessas’ popular (favorite) songs, which are arranged here, but cannot be compared to the original ( namely, “As evriska ta logia” (translated “If I could find the words”) which is beyond reach sang by Antonis Kalloyiannis, “Thalassa mou” (“Sea of mine”) by the…unique Litsa Sakellariou), out of the (rest) new songs, the ones based on Dimitris Brouhos’ lyrics are far better the Spanish ones. The best is “Aegeou fos” (translated “Aegean’s light”).

The looked after “special” orchestration, as well as the production, could be included in the advantages of the album.
